Parkland College Police - PB&PA Unit #173
LABOR INFORMATION

President & Treasurer: Duane F. Frichtl, Sergeant
Vice President:
Yvonne Meyer, Sergeant
Secretary: Angela Corray,
Police Officer
The following information is primarily for
members of the PB&PA Unit #173.
These are some of labor
issues that have surfaced within the current 2008-2011 contract since
Parkland College’s Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial
Officer Chris Randles began representing the College interests.
RESOLVED IN UNION'S FAVOR
2010:
As of May 13, 2010 - Parkland College, without warning or
consultation with the union, cut the hourly rate of pay for Parkland
police officers who voluntarily sign up to help other local police
agencies who operate under a federal grant called
EUDL (Enforcing Underage
Drinking Laws).
This pay cut is not limited to
the federal EUDL grant. The
College has indicated the pay cut will extend to any events where
Parkland police officers assist other police agencies.
It should be noted, that the pay received by the Parkland police
officers for work details such as EUDL does not cost the College money
as the College is reimbursed at a pre-negotiated rate.
Any (over)payment to the College (as could happen by cutting
officer pay) of the federal grant money – is retained by the College.
It now remains an unresolved issue and officers will likely not
be participating in the voluntary program in the future.
RESOLVED IN UNION'S FAVOR
2009:
4th of July.
The College refused to pay holiday pay to Parkland police
officers who were mandated to work the Freedom Celebration’s 4th
of July Fireworks since the College assigned the 3rd of July
as the “College designated” holiday in 2009.
The
College has also refused to designate the 4th of July as the
“College designated” holiday for police officers in 2010; opting instead
for Mon July 5th.
Officers again will not be receiving holiday pay if the fireworks occurs on
the 4th in 2010.
RESOLVED IN UNION'S FAVOR
2008:
Parkland College failed to abide by an agreement with Parkland
College police officers concerning benefits (i.e. vacation days).
In 2009 and 2010, the College held firm and again still refuses
to abide by the original agreement.
This issue remains unresolved.
